Atrium Creates Light

Toowong Village

Brisbane, Australia

A lighter, neutral color palette and more natural light give a new lease of life to Toowong Village to attract more customers.

A new restaurant precinct has activated the previously blank façade of the shopping centre. The number of casual dining options on offer for nearby apartment dwellers has increased. A reconfigured retail plan and new centre entry statements work to urbanise the centre and integrate it into the existing Sherwood Road streetscape.

The ‘hero’ and focal point of the centre’s design is undoubtedly the three-storey atrium. New finishes for all existing elements and recessed strip lighting further accentuate the volume and height of the centre. The profiled atrium edges combine with the screen curtain at the top to provide the centre with an innovative sculptural and dynamic ‘heart’. The redevelopment reinvigorates Toowong Village which, prior to the transformation, had largely remained in its original condition since the centre opened in 1986.

The new look centre has received positive feedback from our client, customers and the general public.
